NJ Promoter Sues King Of Pop
Jackson Recruits Old Pal For Tour
(CBS/ AP) Michael Jackson, the moonwalking former child star who became known the world over as the "King of Pop" before his life and career deteriorated in a freakish series of scandals, has died. He was 50.
A person with knowledge of the situation says Jackson died Thursday in a Los Angeles hospital. The person was not authorized to speak publicly and requested anonymity.
His death brought a tragic end to a long, bizarre, sometimes farcical decline from his peak in the 1980s, when he was popular music's premier all-around performer, a uniter of black and white music who shattered the race barrier on MTV, dominated the charts and dazzled even more on stage.
Jackson's 1982 album, "Thriller" still is the top-selling album of all time, and Michael Jackson was the top performer in the world through much of the 1980s. But somewhere along the way, Jackson went from the king of pop to wacko Jacko.
Some say it started with an accident during the filming of a TV commercial that burned his scalp severely and led to a dependence on prescription pain killers. He became an increasingly reclusive and odd figure.
He was married briefly to Elvis Presley's daughter, then to his skin doctor's assistant. Jackson was a father of three, despite ongoing speculation that they could not be his natural children. He sparked one of his many scandals when he dangled one of the children over a balcony, causing concern of his parenting skills.
All of those scandals paled to the ongoing suspicion of child abuse. He paid one boy more than $20 million to make his allegations go away, but it happened again one day in November 2003.
The charges stemmed from a documentary in which Jackson stated again his belief that having young boys in his bed was completely natural.
"It's very right. It's very loving. That's what the world needs now," Jackson said at the time.
Much of the world saw it differently. Jackson was arrested, handcuffed, booked and eventually stood trial. The court case was a surreal spectacle befitting Jackson's bizarre way of life, including dancing on top of SUVS, pajamas worn to court, and a string of celebrities walking in and out of the courthouse in Santa Maria, California.
"Please keep an open mind and let me have my day in court," Jackson said.
But the inconsistent testimony from the boy and his family members, including a truly bizarre five days on the stand from the boy's mother, convinced the jury Jackson was not guilty. Still, the acquittal never completely put to rest the questions surrounding Michael Jackson., a curious figure who leaves behind a legacy of staggering musical genius, and stunningly bad judgment.
Jackson has kept a largely low profile in recent years but in March, he announced he would perform a series of London concerts scheduled for July.
Jackson was a master of memorable performances and a man whose real life remains a mystery. Michael Jackson also leaves legions of fans with an ongoing fascination with the one-time and some would say forever king of pop

Youth's Corruption and His Problems
About this category: Education
|
There are many and various reasons for youth's corruption and his problems. Man, during the period of his youthfulness has a lot of physical, mental and intellectual developments. That period is an evolutionary one in which man experiences rapid development in his transformation. Hence the need for providing him with means of self-control and curbing of his self-defiance as well as wise leadership that can lead him to the straight path. Youth corruption can be attributed to many factors, prominent among them are:
1. Joblessness
Joblessness is a disease that kills mental, intellectual and physical capabilities. As a matter of fact, it is inevitable that human being should move and work and if he is deprived of work and movement, his brain becomes beset, his intellect becomes exhausted, and movement of the mind becomes weak and devilish insinuations and malicious thoughts take control of his heart. Evil and wicked intentions may occur to him as a result of the depression that befalls him out of his joblessness.
In order to be cured of this disease, the affected youth should get a vocation that suits him like reading, writing, trading or any other thing that can stand between him and his joblessness and which is capable of making him a sound and useful member of his community whether he does the work for himself or for others.
2. Estrangement between youths and elders
This problem appears in a situation where some elders see corruption in their youths and just stand aloof without making any effort to correct them having lost hope in their reform and consequently hating them or being scared of them and paying non-challenged attitude to their conditions whether they are good or bad.
These elders have already concluded that youths are all corrupted and therefore nurse psychological grudges against every youth, a situation that tears the society apart and causes both elders and youths to regard each other with contempt and disdain. This, indeed, is one of the dangers that encircle the society.
This problem however can be solved if elders and youths endeavour to remove the estrangement and alienation that exist between them. Both should bear it in mind that society- with its youths and elders - is like a single body, and if a part of it decays, the decadence will affect the whole body. Elders also are requested to feel the sense of responsibility rested on their shoulders towards their youths and eliminate the hopelessness of youths' piety in their minds because Allah is capable of doing everything.
For, how often a person straying far has been guided by Allah who thereafter became a torch of guidance and a reformer.
Youths on their part, should hold their elders in high esteem. They should respect their views and accept their directives because they have achieved degrees of experience and reality of life which youths have not achieved. Therefore when elders' wisdom are added to youths' energy the society becomes prosperous by the will of Allah.
3. Getting in contact with corrupted people and keeping their companies
This situation has a lot of psychological, mental and moral influence on the youth. That is why the Prophet (ًٍٍٍِSAWS) said: "Man is on the religion of his intimate friend, so let every one of you look critically for whom to befriend."
Solution to this problem is that the youth should choose a righteous, good and intelligent person as his companion in order to benefit from his goodness, righteousness and intelligence. He should consider people very well before befriending them by studying their conditions and reputations. If they happen to be people of noble character, upright, religious and of good reputation, they are his object of long cherished wish and his acquired booty. He should therefore stick to them.
If on the other hand they happen to be people of opposite characters, he must be cautious of them, keep away from them and should not be carried away by their sweet-talk and fine outward appearance.
4. Reading of destructive books, magazines, newspapers, etc
This type of literature makes one skeptical about his religion and faith and drags one from excellent morality to the abyss of degeneration which naturally leads to kufr (disbelief) and depravity if the youth does not have a strong resistance power in terms of deep Islamic education and mental acuteness and sagacity that can enable him differentiate between truth and falsehood and between what is useful and what is harmful.
Also, reading of this kind of literature turns the youth upside down because it meets fertile ground in his mind and thinking without any hindrance and get its roots strengthened and its stem solidified. It also reflects in his rationality and life.
The solution to this problem is to immediately shift from reading such literature to books that inculcate the love of Allah and His Prophet (SAWS) in one's heart and those books that help in actualizing faith and virtuous deeds. He should patiently endure reading of those books because his soul will put up a strong fight against him in order to coerce him into reading what he was used to before and will make him feel bored and irritated at reading useful books.
Example of him is like a person who wrestles with his soul so as to force it obeys Allah and the soul instead insists on wallowing in falsehood and distraction.
There are many useful books that help in this situation, most important of which is the Noble Qur'an and its Tafseer (explanation) written by scholars who based their exegesis on authentically transmitted ahadeeth [Traditions of Prophet Muhammad (SAWS)] and unequivocal common sense. Equally important and useful are books on ahadeeth and writings of scholars that are deduced and inferred from the two above mentioned sources.

Growing in up country
|
Things have changed in modern society for sure, some times it strike me whether the globalization is ‘where we are supposed to be rather that where we were’ or that maybe I get confused because I haven’t changed much as the changes dictate. I grew up in upcountry of central Kenya. Until I moved to work and study in urban, vast green fields, natural reserves and communal life where anybody dared to mind others business was what I knew. Though the family and neighbors were not a ‘haven from selfish mankind’ the love and care of others was radiant, when a bride got married we had a share of the dowry and when one departure from us we shared the tears too. The legends of brave humane and patriotic ran from one generation to the others, passed to us through the music, dances, storytelling and riddles. I remember for instance the legends of Mugo Wa Kibiro, he prophesied of long smoking iron snake sleeking through our motherlands which later came true in the name of railways. As a boy I could never get enough about the legends of men who left their wives or young warriors who sworn patriotism and fought for our independence. I wished to be one of them and spent awesome time daydreaming about that. All this legend rings though my head everyday fresh as I listened to my grandmother who I lived with.
Living in upcountry I was never depilated of luxury which came in terms of freedom of exploration and experiences. Though there were no malls, cinemas or kid’s playgrounds filled with toys and bouncing castles, we run bare footed across and deep into the jungle. We were wild and free. Hunting for hares and gazelles with our miniature bows and arrows and dogs. I remember one dog ‘Chita’ coined from cheetah, he was strong and brave, I even thought I saw bravery in his eyes. We swam in the rocky rivers, gathered wild fruits and cooked sweet potatoes in the fields. One time I took a young buck home but after two days, it was so sick and looked out of place. I could tell from it watered eyes and meek bleat. It was out of place just like I feel here in the polluted and crowded urban.
My family was typically humble just like others so we lived in an imminent tension of bad harvest, school fees, hospital bill and that stuff people take for granted. But my parents always found money for my school fees, class trips and Christmas clothes- not having a Christmas new shoe or pants was so demoralizing just like Christmas without night vigil mass in the village.
Life was cool; we didn’t live in total depravity or crime prone neighborhoods. Respect, wisdom and generosity was what made name for a person though today manicures, pedicures, bar fights and flashy wallets determines a man success. And sometimes I feel like pity for them or probably more pity for our country. Working in fields’ enhanced hardworking and prepared us to face the adulthood responsibilities, failure to finish ones chores meant a half ration or no supper. “A lazy man can’t stand eating as it is work too’. After day work we all gathered around the fire place inside a smoky hut, cousins, friends and neighbors and then my grand ma sitting at her place like a goddess telling us stories, folks and riddles. Her marvelous smooth and wise voice taking us to that world of reality show, the cracking firewood, glinting crickets, choirs of frogs in nearby stream sounded from dark silent night, resonating and rhyming with her voice like a musical background.
At high school that is when I started to drift from home. With students from different backgrounds it was a ground of diversity and problems too. Though I’m okay with all people and respect the same, I sometimes gave a timid bow to peer pressure but would snap back to myself. See! I couldn’t forget where I came from because I wanted to keep my Identity and values. I couldn’t stand letting down my folks neither could the family accept a heir who couldn’t make own legends. I see it now; they wanted us to have better lives than they had.
Growing up there gave me a different perspective of life. It was full of teachings and acknowledgement of realities that I could probably never had learnt. The urban new environment presents me with better options, chances as well as more challenges and obstacles. I have to live on ‘my self’s’ like most of others alone fight or flight from problems while still keeping my head high enough to see beyond the horizons. I’m not ashamed or full of regret about my past. Instead the past give me strength to move a step forward. Well! Living in a small house, not driving a fancy car or wearing trendy fashions like my age mates used to give me ulcers. But when I look back and then beyond the horizons, I see so much work to do, think about the disorganized society, culturally uprooted as my grand ma says ‘ trees lives by their own roots’, and then I realize that it will take courage and suffering to make my own legends. Though I feel comfortable in the urban, I still feel like should do something more to fit and make it right, like I must go an extra mile to prove I can belong here as well as be myself. Though I must change some of my past, I have pride to say that past has much to do with who I am today.

WHERE DO BROKEN HEARTS GOES?
|
It is heartbreaking to write on a phenomenon that I find both bizarre and altogether mysterious. But I couldn’t help wondering why and how it happens. It is easy to regard with contempt or even condemn people doing crazy things, fusing in desperation or becoming retreatists of the society, this is what we learnt to label psychotics and neurotics, like people walking half naked, puffing their lives into world of hallucinations with drugs or even committing suicide. It gives me nightmares like I saw it coming but did nothing. When it all started we the society turned against the guy like a plague and watched in indolent silence gaped like our mouths saw well than the eyes. My friend took his own life, oh yah! Committed suicide, so young to die! Could we have done something to avoid this? Or did we desert him when he reached out for us and needed us most.
Love and affection! It is necessity of life, that what we never understood he needed. Because everyone needs a meaningful contact or connection with others. It is through interpersonal relationship that we reach out for others in an attempt to meet each others social life and support through the many curves of life. The need for contact and inclusion is so evident that currently there are more than 10,000 social websites including facebook, TIG, tagged, friendster you name them. With the globalization the mobile technologies, internet and media the interpersonal relationship have gone to a new level, almost heading to an autistic society where the technologies is overtaking face to face relationships.
The inclusion has all to do with the varying degree by which we need to establish and maintain a feeling of mutual interest with other people. We want others to pay attention to us, take time to understand us and be considered normal like others people. Have you ever experienced how it feels to be invited last in a team? Or been ignored in a friends group and conversations? The feeling of rejection critically demoralize our perception of who we are or the self concept. To have a false consciousness that one is unlovable and unfitting leads to personality inferiority complex. That why people will do crazy things just to prove that they are not zombies and that they need attention too, like getting into drugs, aggression or even anti social behaviors, clothing and styles. These are just a few of attention seeking behaviors. The unsatisfying interpersonal relationship leads to loneliness and then depression.
Every human needs to establish and maintain a satisfactory influence and power in any relationship, when the control need is unmet then we feels like the other person doesn’t respect or value our abilities, that they perceive us to be incompetent. And then there is affection, this involves a need to give or receive love and experience emotional close contact. Less than that one feels unlovable and that people avoid us, however if there is a pleasant experience of affection especially during childhood attachment which influences positively the future approach of decision making, self concept and relationship, then it is easy to handle relationship and recognize that not everyone one meet will necessarily care for him/her the same way as others.
Everyone experiences emotions though it varies with it pleasantness or unpleasantness. Chronic intense emotional if not addressed leads to severe psychological disorders e.g frequent episodes of stress leads to depression and uncontrolled anger is mostly deviated to innocent victims “the last straw syndrome”. Our feelings affects relationships for good or worse, only when direct attention is paid to the same are we able to commit ourselves, have courage and skills to express the pleasant or unpleasant feelings that when a healthy relationship is achieved.
By reaching out for someone, having an effective communication, expressing empathic understand and giving support and courage, we enhance the essence of life i.e. love. So next time someone tries to reach out for you, take time to listen and extend a helping hand. You might be breaking someone’s self rejection cycle and probably that is the blueprint for helping the psycho-social products system we label and stigmatize as insane. For sure they lives among us, this people are us.

School riots ' youths crying for love'
|
The riots in Kenya secondary schools as witness in the past month reflects a need for the society and all the concerned parties to change attitudes and seriously evaluate efficacy of our schools in terms of structural and administration. With more than 300 secondary going on rampage and leaving a trail of damages, one student lost life, and scores injured. This has caused a public outcry with everyone blaming one another. In the wake of the crisis, many factors have been associated as the cause of the mayhem, however some of the recommendation should surely be given a second thought for instance the decision of the minister for education to ban televisions, DVDs and mobile phones can be a good measure but short-lived solution. The copycat phenomenon is probably a major cause as the students copied what others were doing by seeing the news and use of mobile phones, however the mass media have been there and they will still be using the same at homes.
The society has to reinforce good and positive moral development first for the students to conventional air their grievances. If the society is to go by what we witness during the post elections crisis, that now it is an order of the day to use violence and destructions to be heard, then the modeling impels the student to imitate the same.
The changing social roles and social disorganization as a result of unsatisfactory parenting is another cause, the decline of family roles especially the parents in a child primary socialization whereby the children are spend most time in day care center, boarding schools and other institutions provides a ground of differential association. The child learns from diverse environment such as peers, but the major responsibility of such institutions are not based on child development on bases of family oriented values and norms hence not so much effective. By the virtue of a child growing with lack of good models and negative influence increases probability of drug abuse and aggression behaviors in children.
The youths need models, psychological presence of the parents and a working system of administration in schools. The 8.4.4 system should be evaluated and modified to avoid burdening. The relationship between the parents, society, teachers and the students should be enhanced and good communication comes in handy. The moral values and norms enhancement should be aimed at helping individual student to change and have positive self-esteem and good perception. However, there is a need to use effectively rules and regulations in schools just as the laws are used for social control. The indiscipline students should be given a punishment on variation of wrong acts; this will work as deterrence and should be stipulated and reasonable to serve it purpose. The fear of punishment deters criminality behaviors.

Moderate quake hits northeastern Bangladesh
2 hours ago
A shallow, 4.9-magnitude earthquake hit northeastern Bangladesh early Sunday, meteorologists said.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake was centred 115 kilometres (70 miles) north of the capital Dhaka at a depth of 5.2 kilometres and struck at 12:51 am (1851 GMT Saturday).
There were no reports of any damage or casualties, but the tremor was felt in Dhaka and a police spokesman in Mymensingh, the district nearest the epicentre, told AFP it sparked panic there.
A meteorologist at Bangladesh's Storm Warning Centre said it had measured the quake at 5.6 on the Richter scale, according to local media reports.
Bangladesh last month announced plans to step up its earthquake response contingency plans.
The South Asian nation sits on active tectonic plates and is frequently jolted by tremors. The last major earthquake struck in 1896.

Italy declares state of emergency over immigration
Saturday, 26 July , 2008, 16:40
Rome: The Italian government announced a nationwide state of emergency on Saturday in reaction to a phenomenal increase in illegal immigration to the country's south.
The Silvio Berlusconi government's move is to provide local authorities with greater means to deal with the rising tide of illegals arriving by boat.
Interior Minister Roberto Maroni plans to build new intake centres throughout the country, the daily La Repubblica reported.
Also in the news: Anxiety in Bangalore a day after terror blasts | Column: Heroes of a devil's democracy
According to the interior ministry, nearly 11,000 people illegally migrated to Italy in the first half of 2008, twice as many that came in the same period in 2007.
The Italian government called a state of emergency with a wave of refugees in 2002 and it was renewed annually - even under the centre-left government of Romano Prodi. As the intake centres in February 2008 seemed sufficient, the Prodi government limited the emergency measures to the three southern regions of Calabria, Sicily and Puglia. The Berlusconi government at the behest of the Interior Ministry has now widened the powers to the entire country.
Warning of the introduction of a "police state," the country's opposition attacked the measures sharply, calling them abhorrent. "Italy does not need inhuman and extraordinary measures," said parliamentarian Rocco Buttiglione, the Turin-based newspaper La Stampa reported on Saturday.
In response, Maroni criticised what he claimed was the opposition intention to make the state of emergency seem like an entirely new development, and called the opposition position "the worst Italian politics."
The Interior Minister is to face Parliament on Tuesday.
Berlusconi, who was elected Prime Minister in April, had declared the fight against illegal immigration a priority. A first step was the passage this week of a package of new security laws brought forward by the conservative government.
The number of illegal immigrants in Italy is estimated at around 650,000. Tens of thousands of refugees attempt the dangerous journey in less-than-seaworthy boats from North Africa into southern Europe each year.
Overnight another 73 would-be immigrants arrived in two boats at the Italian island of Lampedusa.

Midnight summer
|
One thing i love about this dream i just had,
it was a timeless bomb yet when it exploded
i startle woke laughing like a psycho, recalling it
i was a walking in a path trudging on mud
couldn't go for the shortcuts filled with deceits and fallacies.
And i whistled a tune of a nursery rhyme
as words thumped on chest talking of many rivers to cross
bridges to rebuild, of miles of frustrations howling like hyenas
wanted to sing and pledge for hoe to scare famine to history,
threads to mend the stratified society of classes,
and piece of mind least the hard pity logged on my skull got me mad.
I wanted to shout and let everybody know how it feels,
To lack and hate, despair and turn to crime.
And the pleasure and Peace of actualization
but I was muffed and the opportunities placed in a high selves
locked in safes of bureaucracy in our systems.
Yet I was determined to go all the way up with hope and no shortcuts.
It felt like Midnight summer and I was sad to wake to indolent reality.

TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY
About this category: Media
|
There is so much to learn from your legacy.
With a voice of man; you built empire on Mt Zion.
Music of your soul like prophesy reveled.
Songs of awe still stirring the bushes like a lion.
Only if we could capture them within our very souls.
If we could understand and take the visions.
And apply the glow within searching a little deeper.
In the soul beneath our skins for redemption.
Know what you stood for and shed that abroad.
With your wisdom logged over our palates for emancipation.
From recurrent grave your voice echoes with blossom.
Stirring it up, jamming as with iron like a lion in Zion.
We shed our gloved grief punched hearts to loom.
Spreading rhymes of liberation in likeness of your kindness.
May there lie within each one of us your soldier heart.
When this is used in teaching and touching others.
Then your great inspirations and dreams overflow.
BOB NESTA MARLEY
You still live in our hearts through your music.
Born Feb, 6th 1945 – Died May, 11th 1981.

FASHION IN THE JUNGLE.
|
What if the jungle animals wore clothes?
Mr. Tall Giraffe the managing director,
Would always be late for business meetings.
Tying some hundreds ties on his long neck.
Brigadier Lion would look majestic.
Wearing a military uniform; striped with stars and medals
.walking majestically and been saluted at every corner.
Constable Millipede would never make it in Military.
Thousand blacks boots to polish every morning.
He would always burrow on earth to avoid inspection.
The hippie Monkey would look mischievous.
Wearing in funny places; like inners on the head.
And will have patches; torn while jumping on trees.
A Bat would look cool upside down.
But would have hard time wearing glasses.
Or always wearing clothes upside down.
Sir Buffalo would have a strange hat.
Entwined on the curved horns or wear shades.
Green shaded probably to see green pastures even when drought.
The Snake family would not need a wardrobe.
Shedding their clothes at any place in the jungle.
And would never know Mr. Tortoise the shoes cobbler.
Miss Peacock would be a famous beauty pageant.
Wearing colorful scarlet and proud catwalks.
She would definitely be the dazzling miss jungle world.
What a fashion in the jungle world.

MAMA
|
Wind flaps as she knit a coat.
In a cold evening whistling; me a toddler tagging her.
Every stitch bounded with great love to cover me.
Through stormy nights her heart never changed.
She carried me for nine heavy months.
And wiped tears to get me a home and bread.
With honest hands of lovely caring touch.
She taught me to have good friends.
Respect all ages with no pain and gain.
Even through her pouring she is always there.
Listening to my storms with great understanding.
When my heart wanders and things fall apart.
When soul aches and spirit shut, she is by my side.
I wish I could pay back for she color my world.
But least I can do is to love her more everyday.
And may I inherit just half her caring heart.
As I strive to be the best she wished me.
Mama! I love you; you always touch my soul.
